How workers do to-dos

A worker takes your to-do as a task, works through it step by step, asks when it needs you, and brings it back done.

To-dos and tasks

A to-do is a line you write down, on Today or in a goal. When you give a to-do to a worker, the work the worker does on it is a task: its chat, its steps and its results.

From to-do to done

  1. You give it. Click Give to Lou, choose a worker from Give To, or drag the to-do onto a worker's face.
  2. The worker starts. The worker shows Busy, and the to-do moves under Working on Today. It gets its own chat with the worker, named after the to-do.
  3. The worker works step by step. While it works, the chat says "Lou is working" and the current step in words, such as "Writing the reply".
  4. The worker asks when it needs you. The task moves under Needs You, with what it needs:
    • Allow: the worker wants to do something that needs your permission.
    • Answer: the worker has a question.
    • Help: the worker cannot go on without you.
  5. It comes back done. The task goes to Done with its result, and you are told once.

If a result is not right, click Send Back with a note. The worker starts a new attempt.

Give work in a chat

You can also talk with a worker in a chat and ask for something. When the work is bigger than a reply, the worker opens a task for it, and the task shows on Today.

Choose the quality

In a chat, the + menu has Quality: Fast, Standard or Best. Standard is the default. A project has no Quality choice.

Take back a to-do

Right after you give a to-do, Undo takes it back. The worker stops, and the to-do returns to Yours, ready to give again.

Work that repeats

A Routine is a request that repeats by itself, such as a weekly review. Each time a routine starts, it makes a new task.

Open Routines in the sidebar to see every routine, grouped by worker. Open one to Pause or Resume it, Start Now, or delete it. To add one, click New Routine, or ask the worker in its chat.

Where finished tasks go

History lists every task that is over, Done or Stopped, newest first. Click a task to open its chat.

Notifications

  • iPhone: the app sends a notification when a worker needs you. For a request to allow something, the notification has Allow and Don't Allow. For a question, it has Reply, so you can answer without opening the app.
  • Web: turn on notifications for your browser in Settings > Notifications.
  • Mac: the Mac app sends its own notifications. Change them in System Settings.
